2. Gravidity & Parity Explained
Two of the most heavily tested concepts in OB nursing are Gravida and Parity.
Gravidity (Pregnancy)
- Gravida: A woman who is pregnant.
- Gestational Age: Age of baby in the womb.
- Abortion: Spontaneous or intentional termination of pregnancy.
- Miscarriage: Spontaneous loss of pregnancy < 20 weeks.
Parity (Deliveries)
Parity refers to the number of times a woman has given birth past 20 weeks gestation. This includes both living and stillborn births.
